DBF 2016 Artist Profile #3: Cedric Burnside Project

Posted on Aug 2, 2016

The name resonates on its own, it is at once weighty and electric: Burnside. Well, well, well, Cedric Burnside carries that energy, nay drives it, into his performances. He reaches back through his lineage, pays homage to his late grandfather, R.L. Burnside and other hill country bygone legends, while adding his own youthful vigor, to capture audiences all over the map.

Growing up near Holly Springs, Mississippi, music was life and life was music. His grandfather’s house parties were legendary, where the front porch positively vibrated. Having earned his chops as a child, Cedric was just 13 when he began backing his grandfather on tour internationally. He has since played with a host of talented acts including Bl
ck Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, North Mississippi Allstars and such venerated blues icons as Bobby Rush, Junior Kimbrough, T Model Ford and Kenny Brown.

With friends like that, who needs awards?

Deservedly, Cedric Burnside does.  He has been four-time winner of the Drummer of the Year award, and his 2015 album, Descendents of Hill Country was nominated for a Grammy.

We are thrilled to extend our enthusiastic welcome back to the Juke Joint Chapel stage at the Shack Up Inn on Friday, October 14th for Deep Blues Festival 2016!
