Dex Romweber is coming to Deep Blues Festival in October 2017! Pardon the pun, but we are psyched. Yes, this underground hero has crossed many genres in his career through punk, surf, psych, rockabilly, garage and RnB. All this sums up to a perfect fit for Deep Blues Fest. His 1990s group, Flat Duo Jets toured with the Cramps, Iggy Pop, Link Wray, and the Reverend Horton Heat. His influence has deep and broad reach, inspiring artists like Jack White, Neko Case, and Chan Marshall of Cat Power (check out this doc clip & Letterman performance here, or this clip from the 1987 doc Inside/Out which also featured the B52s and R.E.M.)
These days he performs as Dex Romweber Duo and is a Bloodshot Records recording artist. Check out this video for “Death of Me“. Interest in Romweber has not waned over the years, and a clip from a later documentary piece, Two-Headed Cow, is well worth a watch here.
Now that you have a little background, and have gotten a bit familiar with Dex Romweber (like you weren’t already), you can understand how excited we are to bring this venerated artist to Clarksdale, Mississippi! As we have found, all roads lead to Clarksdale, and we look forward to welcoming Dex to our corner of the world with all it’s grit and charm.
You can join the party and listen to him holler! You can begin the process by becoming a benefactor of Deep Blues Festival. Your donation helps us bring the festival together and create one kickass weekend. Your benefits from becoming a benefactor, apart from earning our deep gratitude, is that you get first dibs on booking accommodation at the Shack Up Inn! Also, you have exclusive access to the Benefactors’ Ball, just a little performance and party we whip up for you to show you our appreciation for your support. The minimum contribution is $100, and we put that towards securing bands and putting them up once they’re here. This festival has crowd-subsidized since its inception a decade ago in Minnesota, and we continue the tradition as a way to 1) keep going, and 2) get the fans involved! Join the crew here and let’s get a festival going – we’re off to a good start! Check out our lineup as announced thus far here.
Weekend tickets will be on sale as of April 1st, 2017, and run at $75. This ticket gives you entry to the shows at the New Roxy and the Shack Up inn all weekend long.
Are you new to DBF or a seasoned pro? Clarksdale newbie, or part of the furniture? A little bit about the Deep Blues Festival rundown is that there is also plenty of free music going on all around town during the day, so you’ll be thoroughly entertained. There are downtown busking stages and a porch stage at Shacksdale out at the Shack Up Inn. There is nighttime music at the local juke joints (separate cover charges may apply) if you want to soak in the full force of the region.
We look forward to seeing y’all in October!
